Beth Orton Picture
Perhaps best described as a folk/electronica artist, Beth Ortonwas born in East Dereham, Norfolk, and moved to East London at age 14. Orton found success as a musician late, having been more interested in acting during her early career. She first gained notice in 1995 for her vocals on The Chemical Brothers' track "Alive Alone" and is well known for her collaboration (stemming from a relationship) with William Orbitin which she lends her voice for the Strange Cargoalbums. The collaboration with Orbit named SuperPinkyMandy, though of excellent sound, was only released in very limited numbers in Japan. Orton's first solo album, Trailer Park, was released in 1996.

Pedestal Lyrics

Beth Orton

Im sitting so high on this pedestal,
No need to tell how I might feel if I fall,
And you dont know how hard it is to cry,
Ever since you have said goodbye,
You cant feel this sad and not a little strong,
You cant feel this sad and not a little wrong,
How you gonna know all the answers,
When you dont know all the questions yet,
And theres a look in your eyes,
Of which we never speak,
Will it make you strong,
Am I gonna feel so weak?
Well Im not the same as you,
And I dont want the things you do,
And all that preaching never let anyone know,
You cannot reap what you cannot sow,
You cannot reap what you cannot sow,
And they never had the patience to let it be,
Sometimes Ive waited years for what I cannot see,
It must be them not the whole world that lies,
To neither do I wanna have to say goodbye,
You cant feel this sad and not a little strong,
You cant feel this sad and not a little wrong,
How am I gonna know all the answers,
When I dont know how to question it,
And I dont know all the questions yet,
And theres a look in your eye,
Of which we never speak,
Will it make me too strong,
Are you gonna feel so weak?
Well Im not the same as you,
And I dont have the things you do,
And all this preaching never let anyone know,
You cannot reap what you cannot sow,
You cannot reap what you cannot sow.
